KET & PET, explained

KET (Key English Test) and PET (Preliminary English Test) are Cambridge English Qualifications, part of the same exam family used worldwide to certify English ability at defined levels.

KET — A2 Key

The starting qualification: understanding simple written and spoken English, and communicating in everyday situations. Most of our students meet this around ages 8-11, after two to three years of structured instruction.

PET — B1 Preliminary

The next step up: reading and writing longer texts, and holding a real conversation on familiar topics. This level is often where families start seriously discussing an eventual move overseas for schooling.

Why we teach toward these exams

A Cambridge certificate is recognized internationally and gives an honest, external measure of a child's progress — useful for us, for you, and later for admissions officers.
